John Lewis Bisley 2 Drawer Filing Cabinet
John Lewis is no longer selling filing cabinets. The retailer announced that the office furniture, typically made of metal with deep drawers for storing paperwork, has been delisted effective immediately having declined in popularity.
'We've stopped selling filing cabinets as the demand simply isn't there anymore. The world is going digital and paperless, with storage happening in cloud servers. As a result, customers no longer need to print their documents to store in hanging A4 folders,' John Lewis revealed in its latest Shop, Live, Look 2021 report.
The report details how the unprecedented events of 2020 and 2021 have left a permanent mark on how we shop, live and look, focusing on the biggest shopping trends and insights to understand how customers' priorities have changed over the last 20 months.
Working from home has become a big part of that, and John Lewis has seen an increase in demand for those little things that make our working space feel extra special.
'Desk rental through our partnership with FatLlama proved particularly popular. Sales of statement desks rose 65 per cent and at peak popularity we sold the equivalent of seven desks an hour. Other popular WFH pieces included ergonomic chairs, which rose 85 per cent, stationary organisers increased by 10 per cent and we sold enough pen pots to hold 180,000 pens,' John Lewis revealed.
Unsurprisingly, demand for classic office accessories like briefcases declined due to the working from home trend. Briefcase sales fell by more than a fifth, laptop bags were down by a quarter, and sales of other types of business bags fell by 56 per cent.
